Our Forklift Licence Course in Melbourne covers the correct use and handling of forklifts in a high-risk work environment. This course is delivered by highly experienced and qualified trainers & assessors and is aligned to the national standards to ensure that students gain the skills required to operate a forklift in a high-risk work environment.
Our training gives you plenty of time on a variety of forklifts, in a realistic environment, ensuring you are ready to get to work straight away with confidence in your ability. Our specialised training centre is designed just like a workplace – so whether you’re a beginner or seasoned professional, we can work with you.
This course includes theory and practical components to ensure that students gain both the practical skills and underpinning knowledge to allow them to work safely and competently. During both theory and practical components, students will learn about a range of topics.
Topics covered in the Forklift Licence course:
- Acts and Regulations which affect how you work;
- Using different types of forklift trucks with a range of fuel/power sources;
- Inspecting the site and the forklift (including pre-start, planning, post-start and post-operational checks);
- Forklift attachments and controls;
- Data plates/load charts;
- Load centre and Centre of Gravity;
- Travel speed and visibility
- Safe operating techniques & exercises (including lifting, lowering and positioning loads correctly; stacking into racks, stacks, containers and truck trays; travelling with and without loads; travelling on ramps/slopes);
- Safe shutdown and parking;
- Safety of other personnel.
Study may include pre-course or post-practical activities. Delivery modes of these activities may include classroom-based learning, online/eLearning, workplace or blended options.

The standard duration of this course is 2 days, plus pre-course learning. Course duration may vary depending on prior student experience.
The course is delivered at our training facility at 15 Barrie Rd, Tullamarine VIC.
Courses may also be delivered at other suitable workplaces by arrangement.
There are no pre-requisite qualifications for this course.
Assessment for a forklift High Risk Work Licence can only be undertaken by persons aged 18 years and over.
Students must be at least 18 years old to obtain a forklift licence.
Assessment activities must all be conducted whilst communicating in English, and interpreters are not allowed to be used. Students require a reasonable command of English and basic numeracy skills to complete the government-mandated assessment tool for this course. Only minor adjustments for personal or workplace reasons are allowed.
Hearing impaired persons may use sign language to communicate via an interpreter (only when approved by the Regulator).
The course may involve some manual handling, climbing, lifting, carrying, and height work. It must be clearly understood that some disabilities may preclude a student from participating safely, and this may restrict entry to the course. While we will make every effort to cater to the specific needs of students, decisions relating to safety are not subject to negotiation.
This course may involve working in a warehouse, construction or outdoor environment, and performing High Risk Work. Students are therefore required to wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during training.
When attending the course, students must bring/wear:
- Fully enclosed shoes or boots (steel-capped safety shoes recommended)
- Drill shirt and pants (full cover – ankle to wrist)
We will provide hi-vis vests, gloves, safety helmets, books, pens, tools and other resources needed for the course.
Students who do not have the appropriate PPE will not be permitted to participate in the practical component of the course and may have to be rescheduled at another available time. This may incur additional fees (please refer to the Student Handbook for specific fee details).
Training which takes place in the workplace under supervision may require different or additional PPE dependent upon the site rules and procedures. If this is the case, requirements should be discussed with your employer/supervisor.
The standard price for this course is $650.00
Student tuition fees as published are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment and are inclusive. There are no other fees or charges.

On successful completion of this course, you will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment with the relevant Units of Competency.
You will also be given a temporary WorkSafe forklift licence which is valid for 60 days.
You will be able to apply for a nationally recognised forklift High Risk Work Licence from a state regulator. During this process, you will be required to pay an additional government licensing fee of $50 – $100.
