
Operate a Steam Turbine is a comprehensive course suitable for personnel who work, or have an interest in engineering, manufacturing, power supply and Heritage operations (trains, mills, machinery).
The course covers competencies required to understand the operational capabilities of turbines, work safely with and identify fuels/hazards, identify faults and problems and more.
This training may include some pre-course reading and activities, blended learning options and practical training in a simulated environment. Successful applicants will be eligible to apply for the issue of a National Licence through the local regulator or Worksafe authority.

Licence to Operate a Steam Turbine
The AITAC Victorian Training Facility is located at 5 Barrie Road, Tullamarine.
The Training Centre is a short walk from public transport, and close to Melbourne Airport.
Other venues may include employer workplaces.

REQUIREMENTS
This course may involve working in a construction or outdoor environment, and performing High Risk Work. It therefore has some basic safety requirements which are in place for your protection, and the protection of other students and training personnel.
To be admitted to the training on our site you must wear the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in the designated areas:-
• Safety shoes or boots (minimum fully covered footwear)
• Drill shirt and pants (full cover – ankle to wrist)
• High visibility vest or clothing
• Suitable gloves
• Approved safety helmet
We provide HiVis vest, gloves and helmet for training on our site, along with all tools, book/s pens and other resources needed for the course. You only need to wear the appropriate clothing.
Training which takes place in the workplace under supervision may require different or additional PPE dependent upon the site rules and procedures, including:-
• Safety glasses
• Earmuffs or other hearing protection
You and/or your employer have responsibility for providing all PPE used in the workplace.
Students who do not have the appropriate PPE will not be permitted to participate in the practical component of the course, and may have to be rescheduled at another available time.

• You must be at least 18 years of age unless specific exemption is provided and agreed by all parties.
• The course may involve some manual handling, climbing, lifting, carrying, and height work. It must be clearly understood that some disabilities may preclude a student from participating safely, and this may restrict entry to the course. For details and alternatives, please refer to AITAC administrator for advice. Decisions re safety are not subject to negotiation.
• Specific study material must be completed. This may be pre-course or post practical activities. We provide several options for this, including online or blended theory.
